Podiatric surgery is a type of surgery that treats problems of the foot. It focuses on conditions affecting the bones, joints, tendons, nerves, and skin of the foot.
Podiatric surgeons are specialists who are trained to carry out foot surgery. They are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and are governed by the Royal College of Podiatry.
Podiatric surgeons are not medical doctors, they are Podiatrists. They work closely with your GP and other healthcare professionals to make sure you get the right care.
The Nottinghamshire Podiatric Surgery Service provides outpatient clinics and day case foot surgery at Park House Health and Social Care Centre in Carlton, Nottingham.
Podiatric surgery is carried out using local anaesthetic. This is given as an injection into the toe, foot, ankle or near the knee. You will be awake during the procedure, but the area being treated will be numb.
The surgery is done as a day case. This means you can usually go home within three to four hours after your operation.
The service does not offer general anaesthetic. If you cannot have surgery under local anaesthetic, this service may not be suitable for you. In this case, your GP or specialist may refer you to hospital based care instead.
