The Nottinghamshire Eating Disorder Service (NEDS) supports adults aged 18 and over who have more serious eating disorders. This includes people with anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa.
To use our service, you must be registered with a GP in Nottingham City or Nottinghamshire County.
We do not use a set body mass index (BMI) to decide who can be referred.
We accept referrals from healthcare professionals. To refer someone, the NEDS referral form must be completed and sent to: NEDSAdmin@nottshc.nhs.uk
Each referral is reviewed by our clinical team. This helps us decide whether NEDS is the right service to offer an assessment and possible treatment.
If NEDS is not the right service, we will help by signposting professionals to other suitable services or support. We can also offer advice and consultation where needed.
If accepted, the service user will be offered an assessment with a skilled and caring member of our team.
Assessments:
After the assessment, the whole team discusses the service user's needs. Together, we use our shared knowledge to agree a care plan with the service user.
Our treatments follow national guidance and are based on evidence. Psychological therapies we offer include:
Alongside therapy, we may also offer support from:
These supports are offered as part of eating disorder treatment. We do not provide them on their own, and we do not offer physical health monitoring as a separate service.
We treat every service user as an individual. We consider personal needs, including neurodivergence and learning difficulties. All care plans are discussed and agreed with each service user.
Can I bring someone with me to the first appointment?
Yes. If you come into the Mandala Centre for your assessment you can choose to bring a family member, advocate or friend with you to the first appointment. However, we usually encourage you to meet us by yourself at some stage during the assessment.
Is my information confidential?
Yes, it is, in the sense that your information is held within our team, and that the information you share at assessment will only be shared with other professionals as necessary. Following assessment, a summary letter and care plan will be sent to you and to your GP, but we will discuss with you if there is any information you do not wish to be shared with your GP. In exceptional circumstances, such as if there were immediate concerns about your/others health and safety, then we may share information with external services.
Who will monitor my physical health?
Your physical health will be monitored by our medical monitoring team in conjunction with your GP.
